Chronic Fatigue Syndrome Chemical Signature Discovered
By identifying a distinct metabolic signature in patients with Chronic Fatigue Syndrome (CFS) also known as Myalgic Encephalomyelitis (ME), this new research provides a very valuable insight into the origins and causes of Chronic Fatigue syndrome and it provides bio-markers that are testable.
In addition, these metabolic signatures may provide a target for drug therapy, allowing clinicians to see how effective a drug is at correcting these changes or correcting the cause of these changes. Currently, the diagnostic accuracy of these bio-markers are 90% and show that Chronic Fatigue Syndrome is a hypometabolic (low metabolism) response to environmental stress. They need only 25% of the bio-markers to diagnose. About 75% of the metabolic changes are unique to the individual, which allows for guided personalized treatment.
In summary, clinicians now have a very plausible objective chemical signature in which can be used to diagnose and monitor Chronic Fatigue Syndrome.
